With the opposition set to turn the heat on the UPA over the housing, Commonwealth Games and 2G spectrum scandals, the government on Wednesday offered to discuss any issue in order to get the winter session of Parliament from November 9 to December 13 to function smoothly.
"We are prepared for a discussion on any matter permitted under rules and as decided by the presiding officers," said Parliamentary Affairs Minister PK Bansal.
"We want Parliament to function," added Prithviraj Chavan, minister of state for science and technology.
The issue will figure in the government's informal consultations with the opposition and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar's November 9 meeting with party leaders.
The two Houses of Parliament are likely to witness turmoil from day one —quite unlike the show of decorum expected during US president Barack Obama address to MPs in Central Hall on November 8.
