The government on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to television channel NDTV Imagine for airing the reality show Pati Patni aur Woh after National Commission for Protection of Child Rights complained about the use of babies in the programme.
Sources in Information and Broadcasting Ministry said that the notice was issued to the channel after the Ministry's preview committee headed by the additional secretary went through the contents of the show.
The show-cause notice was given to the channel under the Content Code of the government and the broadcaster will have to respond to it within 15 days.
The action came after NCPCR chairperson Sandhya Bajaj complained to the Ministry last week about the show. Subsequently, it was referred to the preview committee.
The NCPCR issued an interim order on September 30 asking the channel to cease telecast of the show. However, the Delhi High Court today allowed the channel to continue to air it.
The NCPCR and a host of NGOs had objected to the programme which shows selected celebrity couples taking care of very young children. They said the use of babies and infants in the show, which went on air on September 28, violates child rights.
