The information and broadcasting ministry has said it would probe allegations of sexual harassment by newsreaders at one of the channels of the state-run All India Radio.
Information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari has ordered the setting up of a panel to probe the charges within three days, a statement from the ministry said. The sexual harassment charges were pressed by employees of FM Gold AIR, a news and entertainment FM radio station, through the AIR Broadcasting Professionals Association, a staffers’ body.
In India, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act makes sex offences in offices a punishable crime and a recent panel has recommended stricter punishment.
“The committee has been constituted in the light of a report appearing in certain sections of the press alleging sexual harassment at FM Gold AIR.
