The monorail will go to areas where Metro doesn't reach

Delhi government has built the Metro and increased the number of buses but last-mile connectivity remains an issue.
We are addressing the last-mile connectivity issue. The transport department and civic agencies are working on a policy to introduce e-rickshaws in the Capital. These environment-friendly rickshaws will connect residential colonies and commercial hubs with the nearest Metro stations. These vehicles would be ideal for short journeys and safe for both men and women. We are also serious about monorail, which would go in areas where the Metro cannot go.
Though the DTC has acquired new buses, their maintenance is a big issue.
I am concerned about the maintenance of buses. I have personally started visiting all the bus depots and workshops to see the functioning. Officials have been issued instructions to be extra vigilant and they have been told there should be no complaints about cleanliness or technical fault in buses.
There are also complaints with the frequency of buses. Some routes have buses every 2-3 minutes whereas certain routes have very few buses.
Route rationalisation is definitely our priority. DIMTS has done a study and they are now discussing the report with the DTC. We will soon start implementing the findings of the study.
The transport department had promised automatic fare collection and public information system. What happened to those plans?
Our cluster buses have public information system. We also have electricity ticketing machines in those buses. We are trying to have both the systems in DTC buses as well. We are also working on a common mobility card, which can be used in all modes of transport.
Delhiites should play the role of proactive citizens

The PWD built several new roads and flyovers during the Commonwealth Games but maintenance is an issue.
To ensure that new assets are properly maintained, we have created a separate wing. The brief given to the team is precisely the same -- maintain the assets and keep them in a good condition. We are also getting 68 mobile maintenance vans for routine maintenance, filling potholes to check the damage and ensuring that roads do not break further. All new road contracts have the clause that the contractors will have to maintain the roads for the next five years.
There have been many cases of screws of streetlight poles being stolen, rods being removed from iron grilles and vandalisation. Why can't the government check it?
We need public support to prevent such cases. These assets are being created from the tax payers' money. We cannot have police everywhere. If people notice anything missing or being vandalised or stolen, they should immediately report it to police. They should play the role of pro-active citizens. I have also told officials to be extra vigilant and keep an eye on such things.
We have not seen any construction after the Commonwealth Games. Any plans to build new road projects?
We are going to start the extension of the Barapullah Road from January. The western end of the road is being extended to Aurobindo Marg near INA market. A feasibility study is on to extend the road up to Mayur Vihar in east Delhi. Work on the 17-kilometre stretch of Outer Ring Road - from Vikaspuri to Wazirabad - is also going to start from January. We are also working on 13-14 other projects.
