A group of over 10 miscreants, armed with guns and batons, attacked three brothers in northeast Delhi’s Gokulpuri area on Wednesday morning.

According to the police, the attackers were family members and associates of one of the relatives of the victims with whom they had some enmity.

The brothers run a dairy business. The incident took place around 6.30 am at Ganga Vihar colony in Gokulpuri.

While two of the brothers, identified as Sanjay, 38, and Brijpal, 50, suffered injuries after they were attacked with batons, the third brother, Santarpal, 45, sustained a gun shot injury in his thigh.

All of them were admitted to the Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) hospital where they are undergoing treatment. The condition of Sanjay was stated to be critical.

A senior police officer said Santarpal lives with his family in Ganga Vihar colony. Santarpal’s younger brother Sanjay and elder brother Brijpal also live with their families in the same locality.

On Wednesday morning, Sanjay was on his way to his dairy shop when his relative Omi along with his family members and associates started assaulting him.

Sanjay was thrashed so badly that he became unconscious and collapsed on the road.

“When Brijpal was informed about the incident, he rushed to his brother’s rescue. The miscreants attacked him too and when Santarpal arrived at the spot and joined the melee, one of the miscreants fired a bullet that hit him in the thigh,” said the senior police officer, adding the miscreants fled after attacking the three brothers.

“A case has been registered at the Gokulpuri police station on the basis of the statements of the victims,” the officer said.
