A 32-year-old security guard, deputed outside the residence of Union minister Sachin Pilot, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his licensed service arm early on Sunday morning.
Police said, Inapu shot himself with his service rifle around 12:30am outside the minister’s residence at 3, Safdarjung road. Inapu hailed from Kohima in Nagaland. No suicide note was recovered.
“Inapu was with the Nagaland Armed Police and was on duty from 10pm onwards on Saturday. He had returned from his hometown nearly six days ago and, according to his colleagues, appeared a little depressed,” said a senior police officer.
According to the initial investigations, Inapu’s colleagues, who were asleep in an adjoining barrack, heard a gun shot sometime after midnight. They rushed outside to find Inapu lying dead in a pool of blood. When they turned his body over, they realised he had shot himself in the neck,” an investigator said.
Soon after, Inapu was rushed to the RML Hospital. The doctors have told the police that Inapu had shot himself just below his lower jaw. The bullet had pierced through his circle and exited from its top, killing him instantly.
Since no suicide note was recovered, police are now investigating whether it was work-related stress or a family problem that pushed him to the edge.
“His colleagues told us that he wasn’t usually as depressed as he had seemed just after joining work. We are in touch with his family and investigating the matter. A case has been registered,” the officer said.
