Mukesh Kumar

For 28-year-old Mukesh Kumar, a security guard in a Sunder Nagar hotel, the night of Vijay Dashmi was the most harrowing in his life. Never in his life had he seen so much blood being spilt on a road.

Kumar was on duty when he heard the bang of a speeding car crashing into a tree. Then began the 30 most difficult minutes of his life in which he tried to rescue the injured.

“There was blood all over. I first got the girl out of the car, who was conscious. The man in the back seat was bleeding profusely. Getting him out was difficult but me and my colleague got him out,” said Kumar.

He lost hope when he couldn’t get the driver (Satendra Gupta) out. “He was unconscious and badly injured. After trying to get him out for 20 minutes, we called the police,” added Kumar.

The police had to use a gas cutter to rescue Gupta from the mangled car.
