Suraj Andrews, a BBS student, spoke fluent English but had problems in speaking Hindi and lacked confidence while facing a large gathering.
On May 23, the auditorium in Keshav Mahavidyalaya reverberated with applause showered by the 2,500 strong audience that listened to Suraj, as he explained the admission procedure to Delhi University colleges and resolved their queries. A confident man now, Suraj is now on his way to England as part of a student exchange program with the UK, and hopes to make his mark in the media industry.
For nine days, from May 15 to May 23, a group of 16 Delhi University students toiled day after day to listen and respond to admission queries of thousands of anxious students and parents. With the ‘Open Day’ sessions being over, the work is now to be done over the phones. “We get an average of 900 calls every day. Only the medium of communication has changed, work is far from over,” said Manmeet Sidhu, a third-year psychology student at Keshav Mahavidyalaya.
In an upward trend, students have been observed as taking more responsibilities and getting more involved in various college outreach programs like this one that aims to help DU aspirants.
