The Rajya Sabha was adjourned on Friday morning when BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi’s demand for the suspension of the Question Hour to take up the issue of alleged land grab by Gujarat governor Kamla Beniwal was rejected by the chair.
BJP’s charge: Gujarat governor Kamla Beniwal claimed to be a farm labourer working 14 hours a day to get land allotted in Rajasthan. The Rajasthan unit of the Congress has denied any such “land grab”. BJP MPs raised slogans when Question Hour was not suspended, leading to the adjournments.
Demanding Beniwal’s recall, Naqvi told HT, “The governor has claimed land allotment on the ground that she is a labourer working 14 hours a day. This is a serious scam and we demand she be recalled.”
