Unidentified gunmen fired at the office of Najafgarh MLA Rajesh Gehlot in the early hours on Friday. The AAP leader was not in his office at the time of the incident.

His office is located at the Najafgarh-Dhansa main road.

Police said that the office wall had 7-8 bullet marks and the glass on the wall of his first floor office was also found broken. The MLA claimed that at least 17 bullets were fired.

Gehlot said the security guards of a school adjacent to his office heard the gun shots at around 1 am and informed his aides about the incident. “They told me that they saw a car stopping in front of the school and then they saw the person firing. They have fired 17 bullets. They could not see the faces properly in the dark. I do not know who is behind the incident. I do not even suspect anyone but hope that the police solve this case quickly,” he said.

The police have collected the CCTV footage from the nearby building but said that clip is grainy. The absence of proper street lights on the road, leading to the MLA’s office has also dented chances of the vehicle being captured on the CCTV.

Delhi home minister Satyendar Jain told reporters, “It is a matter of concern that such incidents are taking place. I’ve asked the home secretary to get in touch with the Delhi police.”
