A gym trainer who works as a part-time bouncer has been arrested in connection with a daylight robbery in south Delhi’s Green Park last week. The domestic help of the house where the robbery happened in the mastermind.
On July 30, a group of four men barged into a house in Green Park, held a woman, her children and two domestic helps -- one of whom was the main conspirators -- hostage, and ransacked the house.
They made away with jewellery, cash, including foreign currency notes, and other valuables worth around R70 lakh, police said.
The gym trainer is Amarjeet alias Amar, a native of Rohtak in Haryana. His wife runs a small beauty parlour in west Delhi’s Tagore Garden.
A gold bangle, a platinum bangle and a gold chain have been recovered from his possession, police said.
Amar told police that the plan was hatched by one of the domestic helps, Ranjan. Amar said he wanted to settle in Delhi for which he urgently needed money.
“He met Ranjan in Haryana a few weeks ago and the two became friends. As Ranjan knew about Amar’s requirement, he told him about the robbery he had planned with his three accomplices,” said Bhisham Singh, deputy commissioner of police (crime).
The complainant, Niyati Nagpal, said four armed men barged into her home when she was present at home with her children and domestic helps, Kavita and Ranjan, and asked for the keys to the locker.
“The robbers tied up their hands and gagged them with tape and ran away with diamond and gold jewellery, some cash and US dollars,” Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), said.
Amar was arrested from his rented home in Tagore Garden after his role surfaced during investigation. Police said they scanned Ranjan’s phone call details as he had left for his home town after the crime.
“We found he was constantly in touch with Amar before the crime. We traced Amar and interrogated him and he confessed,” said an investigator.
Amar said he committed the crime with his associates Kalu, Amit and Chaudhary. “A team has been sent to Bihar to arrest Ranjan. Efforts are on to nab the other suspects absconding in the case,” Singh added.
