You can now know on what work and how much amount is being spent from your ward councillor’s local area development fund. Thanks to consistent follow up by active residents and the Central Information Commission (CIC), MCD has claimed that it has put up boards to this effect in each ward.
In compliance to CIC directive, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has informed that it has installed boards in each wards, informing people as to how and on what money under local area development (LAD) are spent.
Information commissioner Shailesh Gandhi had in February directed Delhi’s chief secretary and the MCD commissioner to put up boards in a prescribed format in every ward of Delhi."I will also ask the MCD to put up the list of locations zone wise/ward wise on their website too," Gandhi said.
This was the result of complaint letters by Anjali Bhardwaj and 317 other citizens from the Satark Nagarik Sangathan (SNS) seeking details of funds available to the councillors or the elected members of assembly should be available suo moto for public.
However, Delhi government has been continuously requesting for extending deadline for putting up boards. It has already said it would put up boards in circle’s food and supplies office, which is mostly one per ward.
Gandhi said, “As regards the MLA funds, I am pursuing the Delhi government and expect these should be up in a couple of months.” And it is not just Gandhi, who is interested in taking this to a logical end.
Said Bhardwaj, “We are going to file RTIs to ask questions such as: what and how much compliance of CIC order has been done? Who is responsible for compliance?, etc.”
