Union minister for rural development Jairam Ramesh said that India should come to grips with the threat of radiation by intelligent designing of modern gadgets.

"In the US, the new buildings contribute to 40% production of carbon dioxide, which leads to global warming. In India, fossil fuels contribute to global warming."

"To check the threat of radiation in our country, we cannot say no to technology and its progress but we have to design intelligent and safer gadgets with pre-emptive and preventive measures," said the minister during the launch of a book by Harsaran Bir Kaur Pandey, The Radiation Threat: An Emergency in the Making.

Lauding the book, the minister said it provides a good insight into the ill-effects of the radiation from mobile phones, mobile towers and Wi-Fi technologies and also suggests good solutions.

"The SHE factor - safety, health and environment - in the context of radiation elucidated in the book is quite interesting. The author also talks about green buildings, which is a good solution to the threat of radiation," he added.

"We have to find ways to reduce radiation level from modern gadgets through a concerted action. We have to inform people about the ill-effects of radiation. The government should observe standards for permissible amount of radiation from cell towers and mobile phones and other gadgets," said the author.
