A former woman MCD councillor has been fined Rs 1.5 lakh by Delhi High Court for misleading the court.
The court also issued a show-cause notice to Sadhana Sharma, former Burari councillor for contempt of court and directed her to appear in person on February 1.
“We find that the petitioner (Sharma) has been constantly changing her stand which has not only resulted in wastage of precious time of the court but has constituted an inexcusable abuse of process of law,” observed a division bench of Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar.
The bench dismissed the PIL accusing MCD officials of corruption in worth Rs 120 crore in connection with 112 road construction projects. The court directed Rs 1 lakh of the cost to be deposited in favour of MCD and Rs 50,000 to be given to the Delhi HC Legal Services within four weeks.
Sharma had initially said the scam was worth Rs 120 crore, but after the police filed its report, she said the fraud was worth Rs 1.2 crore and it was a typographical error.
