The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued a notice to the Delhi Police and the home ministry on a petition that sought CBI probe into the Shobhit Modi murder case.
The 20-year-old IT student was stabbed to death near his residence in the posh Vasant Kunj locality two months ago.
Justice Mukta Gupta has asked the police to explain by September 13 why it could not crack the murder mystery and why the case should not be handed over to the CBI.
The court has also asked the police to look into the allegations about the deceased’s father Suraj Modi being threatened for trying to get the murder mystery solved.
“The investigation of the police needs to be supervised,” the court said, allowing Suraj’s submission that even after 72 days, the police have been unable to solve the case.
“We have also provided the names of the suspects, but the reasons (for their failure) are best known to them (police). No concrete action has been taken,” Suraj’s lawyer said.
During the probe, the police had interrogated Shobhit's girlfriend and her father after it was claimed that he had disapproved of their relationship.
The cops have so far questioned several people including Shobhit’s friends, classmates and neighbours apart from local criminals and autorickshaw drivers.
