The Delhi High Court on Monday issued notice to the Delhi government on a fresh petition demanding scrapping of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor in south Delhi.
The petition contended that the project was built in violation of Master Plan Delhi 2021 that says a BRT corridor cannot be constructed on a road less than 45m in width.
The petition comes three months after the court dismissed a similar plea, saying the BRT corridor was not an irrational decision by the government.
Col BB Sharan of NGO Nyaya Bhoomi, the petitioner in the public interest litigation, contended that the court in the judgment had stressed that MPD 2021 was a statutory plan and had the force of law. “As per the master plan, the BRT corridor cannot exist on a road less than 45m in width,” said Sharan.
The court directed the Delhi government to file a reply by April 18.
