David Coleman Headley, in custody in the US on charges of terror, was in Goa early last year and extensively surveyed two beaches — Arambol and Anjuna — popular among tourists.

The information comes at a time when a team from the FBI, which arrested Headley and his friend Tahawwur Rana, is visiting India. Security agencies are hoping that it’ll share information on the two men suspected to be linked to Lashkar-a-Tayyeba.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), probing the duo’s links to the 26/11 attacks, found that Headley rented a room in Goa and stayed there for almost a week.

“NIA officials have recorded the statement of the lady who had given her house on rent and also those whom Headley met,” said a senior home ministry official, who didn’t wish to be identified.

Home Secretary G.K. Pillai said the FBI team was in India to brief security agencies and would do the same on Tuesday. “Only after that we will be able to know what information has been shared.”
