Health ministry officials sealed one clinic and issued show cause notices to two others in a surprise raid in eight ultrasound clinics in the Capital.

The National Inspection and Monitoring Committee (NIMC) team, constituted under the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC & PNDT) Act, 1994 — enacted for prohibiting pre-birth sex determination — visited southwest district of Delhi on October 13-14, to verify their licences, equipment, records of F-forms, consent form, delivery, MTP and ultrasound registers.

The team comprising health ministry officials and civil society members inspected eight clinics randomly. The ultrasound centres included four in Najafgarh, two in Vasant Vihar, one each in Vasant Kunj and Mahipalpur.

The rural health centre in Mahipalpur was sealed on account of non-maintenance of form-F records, detailed patient and clinic records for two portable ultrasound machines.

“Besides having a large number of MTPs on record in the first trimester of pregnancy, their OPD register was also found to be full of gaps,” said an official from the health ministry.

Show-cause notices were issued to two clinics in Najafgarh — ShriJeePramod Diagnostic Centre and Classic Diagnostic and Imaging Centre.

The NIMC team also raided Sanjeevani Hospital which was not registered under PC/PNDT after receiving some tip-offs from neighbouring clinics. “Although their list of services included ultrasound, we did not find one on-site. Due to lack of sufficient documentary evidence, no action was taken,” said the official.

The owner of Dr Sahi U/S Clinic, Vasant Kunj, was also issued a warning for poor maintenance of patient records and ultrasound receipts.
