To ease traffic woes of the capital before the Commonwealth Games next year, the city's primary civic body is planning to construct two high-tech stack parking sites where cars can be kept on horizontal decks using hydraulic lifts.
The parking sites will come up in Arya Nagar in Paharganj and Satbhirawan Road in Karol Bagh, MCD officials said.
"The MCD has invited tenders from eligible private firms or contractors for installing multi-level puzzle-type stack parking at two places in the city," an official said.
A stack parking system can have three, four or five decks made of iron frames, which can be moved vertically or horizontally with powerful hydraulic lifts.
"The benefit of this system is that it can help save space. With the use of this technology, the available space can be maximised by stacking three or four cars in the space which would otherwise be occupied by a single vehicle," the official said.
According to MCD officials, this is for the first time such a technology will be used for constructing a parking site in the capital.
Each parking complex will cost around Rs 34 crore. The construction will be completed before the Commonwealth Games next year, the officials said.
