Hindu College alumni, who stayed in the college hostel, will get a chance to relive their college days soon.
The college is planning to hold a reunion for those who lived in the college hostel. They will also get a chance to spend a night in the hostel, most probably in the rooms that they used to occupy.
“The reunion is planned for July 9. We already have the confirmation from more than 200 former students,” said Chandrachur Singh, warden, Hindu College hostel.
The college authorities got the idea when they approached various government offices for funds under the Commonwealth Games renovation project in 2009.
“When we found out that we had been left out of the project and would not get funds for renovating the hostel, we decided to meet officials so that they could rethink their decision. We met many former Hinduites who sympathised with our cause. We realised how much the former students care and decided to host a special reunion for them,” Singh added.
The college’s hostel was established 50 years ago and people from every batch are expected to attend the reunion.
“Facebook has been instrumental in helping us contact all alumni. It helped set the ball rolling. The word got out and already more than 200 students have shown interest,” Singh said.
The former students will gather in the college campus on the morning of July 9. We will try to recreate the feel of the hostel. They will eat lunch in the mess the way they used to when they were in hostel.
“We will also host a party in the evening. The next morning, they will participate in various activities, including a T20 cricket match,” Singh said.
