A 30-year-old lifeguard was killed while his friend a swimming coach, in a private school in south Delhi was injured when their motorcycle was hit by an unknown vehicle on ITO flyover on Thursday night.
The accident took place at around 9:30 pm when the victims were returning to their home in Yamuna Vihar.
The deceased, identified as Surender Singh, was not wearing a helmet and died on the spot due to severe head injuries, said the police. A case of hit and run has been registered at the IP Estate police station.
Police said that Singh and his friend Vikas Sharma (27) were riding a black colour Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle. Sharma was riding the bike.
“Their motorcycle was hit from behind by an unknown vehicle. The impact of the hit was such that both fell from the bike, which skidded more than twenty feet.
Since Surender Singh was not wearing a helmet, he sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.
Vikas Sharma was rushed to LNJP Hospital in a critical condition. Doctors later declared him out of danger,” said a senior police officer further adding that Singh worked with Sharma in the same school.
On July 31 a similar accident had occurred on the ITO flyover, the officer added.
