A Netherlands court has dashed the hopes of a Chennai-based couple to trace their son, kidnapped over a decade ago, by rejecting their request to conduct DNA tests on a city boy adopted by a Dutch family.

The 15-year-old was adopted from Chennai-based adoption agency Malaysian Social Services in 2000. As per the documents, the boy was born to an unwed mother - K Mala in Chennai on 12 October 1997. He was taken in by a Dutch couple.

However, the Chennai couple - Ecabaram Kathirvel and Kathirvel Nagarani - claimed that Rajesh was their son who went missing in March 1999. The two filed their first petition with the family court of Zwolle-Lelystad, seeking Rajesh's DNA samples. The petition was rejected in March 2011.

The couple then filed an appeal in the Leeuwarden HC. When the court sought Rajesh's opinion on the DNA test, it got no response. Hence, on September 13, the court ruled against the Chennai couple.
