The CBI’s plan to bestow posthumous honour on the founder-member of Pakistan’s ISI— late Khan Bahadur Qurban Ali Khan — may be a non-starter due to lack of the government’s nod. Khan had also headed the CBI’s precursor — the Special Police Establishment.
He migrated to Pakistan in 1947 after Partition.
“The CBI is to extend posthumous honour on Khan on April 6 during its golden jubilee celebrations in Delhi,” said a CBI source.
“For this, the CBI has sought clearances from the home and external affairs ministries but they are yet to come though the event is just three days away.”
“The clearance is required since Khan was a Pakistani, a foreigner, and President Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to honour Khan’s Lahore-based grandchildren during the CBI’s April 6 event,” said the source.
