suspected honour killing

The suspected honour killing of married couple Kuldeep Singh (26) and Monica (24) — allegedly by Monica's brother Ankit Nagar and his friend Mandeep Nagar — took a bloody turn early Tuesday when the body of another woman, Shobha, was found in a car near the couple’s rented house in Ashok Vihar close to the local police station.

Shobha was Mandeep’s sister. HT had reported on Tuesday that Mandeep’s sister had eloped a month ago and he allegedly incited Ankit to kill the couple, blaming them for “inspiring” his sisters to follow their lead.

Shobha was also shot in the forehead just like the couple. She was allegedly killed by Mandeep and his friends because she had reportedly helped her younger sister Khusboo elope and get married to a model coordinator from northeast Delhi last month.

Police said both sisters had eloped together on May 25 but Shobha was forced to return after her lover did not turn up.

Ankit, Mandeep and one of their friends are absconding, police said. “We will provide security to Khusboo and her husband. We spoke to them, they said they were safe,” said N.S. Bundela, DCP (northwest).

The victims and all the accused belong to the same Wazirpur village. The sarpanch told HT, “We are not against inter-caste marriages but not within the village even if you are from different castes.”
