A 36-year-old housewife was stabbed to death inside her flat at Tagore Garden in west Delhi on Friday, police said.

The woman’s five-year-old son was sleeping in the next room when the murder took place.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed no ransacking took place and no valuables were missing, and ruled out robbery as a motive.

The woman, Sameeksha Verma, was living with her son on the first floor flat of a building in Tagore Garden. Her husband lives in Dubai. Her parents and brothers live on the ground floor, the police said.

“We received a call around 7 p.m. that a woman has been murdered. She was stabbed several times on her neck and was lying on the sofa,” said Sharad Aggarwal, deputy commissioner of police (west).

“All the valuables were found intact in the house,” said the officer. The police suspect the involvement of an insider as there was no forced entry into the house.

The police said they were questioning the family members and were trying to ascertain the motive behind the murder. The body has been sent for postmortem.

“We are checking the call details and also trying to know who visited her last,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity. A case of murder has been registered at Rajouri Garden police station.
