A disgruntled wife’s claim against her own husband had the local police in a knot on Thursday morning.
While the woman, identified as 45-year-old Jannat who stays on Karol Bagh’s Faiz Road, claimed that a gang of robbers, armed with country-made weapons and abetted by her husband, barged into her house and robbed her to the tune of Rs 11 lakh in the wee hours of Wednesday night, the police was of a different opinion.
“She alleges that she was asleep when 10-12 robbers barged into her first floor residence, held her family members at gunpoint and ransacked her house. It later turned out that she was trying to implicate her husband and his associates in the case,” said a senior police officer.
According to the police, Jannat merely wanted to get back at her 52-year-old husband Zahir Ahmed, a scrap dealer, for spending more time with his other wife Rajjo.
“In her complaint she stated that some of her husband’s associates, he, Rajjo, Sanjeev and Jameel were among the people who looter her house. However, investigation has revealed that though the valuables are missing, no robbery of the description provided by her took place,” the officer said.
Police said they had registered a case but were still in the process of verifying her claim.
Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said: “Prima facie, it appeared to be a case of family dispute. However, we have registered a case of house of trespass and theft.”
