Kiran Bedi has been named the BJP’s CM candidate. Before her name was announced, Bedi talked to HT about her plans and the dissidence in the party over her name. Excerpts:
What are your plans for Delhi?
I am aware of the problems. Policing, Delhi administration and L-G office will be aligned as Delhi suffers when these are not aligned. I have worked as secretary to the L-G and I have seen this alignment. It was the alignment of MCD, civil defence, and we were working together. We will revive it. We had a 24-hour grievance redressal system at the L-G level. This could come at the CM level. We will have a three or four-digit number where people can complain about anything — from an old man in need to water to power-related problems. It will be logged and once it is logged, you can review it.
There will be regular review. All I need is a call centre and money to outsource it.
There is unrest over your name as CM candidate?
Let this be answered by the party leadership. All I know, I am here because of them.
You talked about women security. What are your other priorities?
After 6Ps of women security, I have come up with 6S for Delhi — Surakshit, Swacch, Sakshar, Sakhsam, Sanskari and Sab Ki Delhi. It means our focus will be on security, health, education, capability and ethics to make Delhi for everyone. Delhi belongs to Keralites, Poorvanchalis and to everyone.
Unauthorised colonies are always used as vote banks ahead of elections.
All I can say that these will not be demolished. A poor man needs a house. Regularisation will solve the problem when we will bring in amenities. We will put them on the civic map. The prime minister has already said ‘jaha jhuggi, waha makaan’. My heart equally beats for the poor. We will rehabilitate them if they are on government lands.
Have you been consulted for the manifesto?
I have to sit down with Harsh Vardhan (in charge of the manifesto committee). I hope 6Ps and 6S will be included in the manifesto.
