After Jeetendra, 50, woke up on Sunday morning and noticed a huge crowd gathered around a property dealer’s office in Deep Vihar, Rohini Sector 24, he was sure something was wrong.
“When I saw the stunned crowd, I knew something was wrong. I just prayed that Joginder sahib was alright,” said Jeetendra.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Joginder, 45, was shot dead along with a woman he was allegedly having an affair with, at his plot that he rented to a property dealer.
As Jeetendra pushed through the crowd and made towards the back door of the office, he was horrified. Joginder’s bloody legs were half way through the door. The upper part of his body was lying across the floor. He was only wearing underwear. His kurta and pyjama were lying nearby on the floor.
When Jeetendra came closer, he spotted a woman’s naked body on an adjacent bed. Her clothes — a top and jeans — were lying on on the floor, drenched in blood dripping from her body.
“I was numb with fear. I had given tea to him and his friends in the evening a day before. Everything seemed normal back then,” Jeetendra said.
According to him, Joginder had been sitting with six men in the front room of the office when he saw him last. He had asked for seven cups of tea from Jeetendra, who lives two houses away in the same block.
“Joginder sahib always called me whenever he wanted anything. Be it namkeen, tea, water or ice, I used to bring it for him. He always came in a white Santro car in the evening and returned to his house in Mundka at night,” said Jeetendra.
The locals are shocked at the incident. Joginder came to his plot at least three times a week. Nobody had reportedly seen him with a woman before.
“Joginder sahib was a friendly person. I knew him since a year. He never got into fight with anyone. He just came here, sat in the office, ordered tea and snacks and then he would go back,” the tea-seller said.
Locals were surprised when police told them that Joginder and the woman he was found with had bullet injuries. Nobody had heard any gunshot the previous night.
“It is possible that some people heard it but assumed that it was the sound of firecrackers bursting from a wedding nearby. There is a a community centre in the same block where marriages are organised frequently,” said Jeetendra.
A local spotted the bodies initially. He saw the back door open and Joginder’s legs were visible. The local then alerted the neighbours and the police was informed.
The accused, Jeet Dahiya and Sandeep have been arrested while a hunt is on for four of their accomplices. Police refused to disclose the identity of the deceased married woman.
