With no news on permission for Jaiprakash Narayan Park as their agitation’s venue, organisers of India Against Corruption say they will throng Jantar Mantar on August 16 if no permission is received by then. “If we do not get the permission, we will protest at Jantar Mantar. Let the police arrest us,” said Manish Sisodia, a campaign coordinator.
Social activist Anna Hazare will lead a protest demanding withdrawal of the government’s Lokpal Bill and bringing in a stronger version of it.
After Central Public Works Department (CPWD) turned down their application, the IAC went to Kamal Nath, the union minister for urban development. “Our person was kept waiting but the minister left just like that. We were not told anything,” Sisodia said.
The police, meanwhile, say they have not got any information from either the CPWD or the ministry. Sources said, the MoUD has asked the LG’s office to ensure that the campaigners are not given permission for more than three days.
Meanwhile, Hazare was admitted to Medanta Medicity in Gurgaon for a full body check ahead of his fast on August 16.
