A call centre employee was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his Palam Vihar house on Saturday. The deceased, Anurag Agnihotri, 28, had been working with IBM as an executive for more than a year.
He hailed from Kanpur and had been staying at a rented house in Palam Vihar. His landlord grew suspicious after Agnihotri’s room started to stink, and soon informed the police. Agnihotri had been staying on the ground floor of the three-storey building. The landlord said he last saw Agnihotri on Thursday.
A senior police official said traces of blood were found on the body. Police suspect that Agnihotri might have consumed poison. However, police did not rule out foul play.
Police have not found any suicide note, though they suspect Agnihotri may have committed suicide. Police said he had been depressed as his mother was unwell and his father had married twice.
According to investigators, his family’s financial situation was not good, and the power connection at his house in Kanpur was also cut due to non-payment of bills.
“It seems to be a case of poisoning though we are yet to find out more details. It can also be a property dispute. Only the crime team can tell what exactly happened. The team is investigating the matter,” said DCP (west) Maheshwar Dayal.
Police also found alcohol in the deceased person’s room, which suggested that he may have consumed it and later vomited.
Agnihotri’s friends said he was suffering from depression due to severe financial crisis. Police have called his parents and relatives to Delhi for identification of the body. Some of the relatives, who were present at the crime scene, said Agnihotri had not spoken with them for a long time.
A forensic team from Faridabad has collected evidence and his body has been sent for post-mortem. His family members will reach Gurgaon on Sunday afternoon, a police officer said.
Police said they are probing all angles and waiting for the post-mortem report.
