At least 233 bungalows, occupied by ministers and members of Parliament (MPs) in the Capital, have unauthorised constructions in them, in violation of the regulations in Lutyens Zone. The constructions carried out in government bungalows in Lutyens Zone amount to blatant violation of building bylaws and regulations, according to the urban development ministry.
Many bungalows are occupied by ministers and leaders of prominent national parties. "Such constructions are removed after the occupant vacates the house and before the new allottee moves in," said a senior urban development ministry official.
However, the official said certain constructions in the bungalows in Lutyens Zone are permissible in accordance with the development control norms of the area and the guidelines issued by the government after taking due approval from the authorities concerned.
As per Lutyens Bungalow Zone guidelines, any constructions there needs clearance from the PMO and DUAC.
"Constructions in the zone carried out without clearances are considered illegal and notices are regularly issued to the occupants for its removal; failing which, actions are initiated for cancellation of allotment and eviction under the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act 1971," said the official.
