In Delhi, Azhagiri thinks of Madurai

Relieved his induction as Union minister has finally happened, M.K. Azhagiri (59) is grateful to his father, Tamil Nadu CM M. Karunanidhi, and to Madurai, the city that gave him his political clout.

As he drove back to Tamil Nadu Bhavan where he’s been staying for the last three days, the DMK leader told mediapersons “Madurai will definitely get preference. With nine Union ministers from the state, Tamil Nadu too will prosper”.

Azhagiri, who likes to keep away from the media, was happy his mother Dayalu got to see his swearing-in. Karunanidhi stayed away though, probably to keep peace in the family over daughter Kanimozhi not getting a slot in the Council of Ministers.

Azhagiri’s brother M.K. Stalin was not only present but was seen chatting up Rahul Gandhi. He refused to entertain queries on what had transpired between the two. “Do I have to tell you what we spoke of,” he asked before he left for Chennai with Dayalu.

And in a sign that all’s well, Azhagiri, Stalin and Dayanidhi Maran, also sworn in as Union minister, travelled in the same car from Rashtrapati Bhavan to Tamil Nadu House.
