India approached the Sri Lankan government to seek proof to confirm the deaths of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) chief Velupillai Prabhakaran and intelligence head Pottu Amman in connection with the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991.

The two suspects are still wanted by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination case registered 18 years ago.

Sources said the Ministry of External Affairs formally took up the matter with Sri Lanka, seeking legal evidence to confirm or deny their deaths.
