India and Italy are now looking at bringing the bilateral ties back to normal.
With marines back and the Supreme Court lifting the travel restrictions on the Italian envoy, the decks have also been cleared for the ambassador-designate Basant Gupta to travel to Rome. The envoy was asked to stay put in the wake of the earlier Italian decision of not sending the two marines to face the legal process in India. But a final call on this will be made soon, sources said.
The ties between the two had hit a rock-bottom following Italy’s decision for not sending back marines to India, which they had to eventually change.
