A team of the Department of Atomic Energy Sunday left for Vienna for further talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on a safeguards agreement, a necessary step in operationalising the India-US nuclear deal.

The Indian side had talks with the UN nuclear watchdog in November, after the Left parties allowed the Manmohan Singh government to hold discussions on condition that no agreement will be initialed and that the final text of the nuclear deal will have to be presented before the UPA-Left panel.

The team, led by RB Grover, head of DAE's strategic planning division, will begin talks Monday, said a DAE official.
