Four inmates of a juvenile home in Central Delhi allegedly tried to escape by starting a fire there on Saturday evening. None of the juveniles were injured in the fire and no one managed to escape.
The incident was reported to the fire department at 7 pm after which five fire tenders were sent to the spot. They took around 25 minutes to extinguish the fire but by then five rooms in the building were gutted.
The police said the fire was started in the record room that then rapidly spread to different parts of the building. The police were able to identify the four accused boys who started the fire.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Jaspal Singh said, "Fire department was immediately notified and we have secured the area. No one escaped from the premises and no one was injured in the fire."
The police said the other boys from the juvenile home also joined the main accused in trying to stop the fire officials from dousing the fire but they were prevented by the police from doing so.
