Police nabbed an inter-state gang of robbers from Vijay Nagar area of Ghaziabad on NH-24 and also recovered 10 luxury cars and five motorbikes from their possession.

The gang was headed by a BAMS doctor Mool Chand from Shastri Nagar area of Meerut who is absconding after the arrest of five gang members.

“The doctor has a number of links to other such gangs and is involved in sale and purchase of robbed vehicles in neighbouring states,” senior superintendent of police Raghubir Lal said.

Three of the five robbers, aged between 20 to 25 years, are graduates from a college in Bulandshahr district. They have been actively involved in highway robberies of luxury vehicles at the behest of the doctor, police said.

“The gang was involved in over 100 robberies and thefts of luxury vehicles in the areas of Ghaziabad, Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad and Noida,” Lal said.

As part of their modus operandi, the robbers posed as commuters and boarded private vehicles driven by a single driver. Later, at an isolated place, the robbers would overpower the driver at gun-point and flee with the robbed vehicles.

As the gang had no fixed place to hide the vehicles, they parked the vehicles at public parking spaces.

“The doctor then sold these vehicles and the delivery was done by the gang-members. One of the robbers worked as a driver at a multinational company in Noida and was involved in several robberies of the company’s vehicles,” Lal added.
