All international visitors to India from September 23 to October 16, 2010, were screened by global police agency Interpol. The period was also when the 19th Commonwealth Games were held in the national Capital.

Delhi Police that was handling the security during the Commonwealth Games said all the international visitors to India were watched as part of security measure. A team of Interpol was permanently stationed at Ashoka Hotel to monitor security arrangements.

“They were in continuous touch with the Intelligence Bureau officials. The details of all the people visiting India were shared on real-time basis,” said a senior police officer, wishing to remain anonymous.

Police said apart from police forces of other countries, Interpol was integrated at the International Security Liaison Centre set up for the Games.

“The Interpol team, quipped with its database of international criminals, terrorist organisations, assisted the security liaison centre by screening all international visitors,” said the officer.

The Interpol team was set up to support the security efforts of the Indian authorities.
