Irked, he murdered lover’s acquaintance

delhi Updated: Oct 26, 2008 01:05 IST

The Special Team of the Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a person on charges of killing a family friend of her girlfriend.

The police claim that the accused, Robin Singh, a resident of Sonepat, Haryana, was involved in at least six cases ranging from murder to vehicle theft and is a known Bad Character (BC).

He also allegedly gave a fake identity to the police when he was later arrested in an auto theft case. The police added that Robin also carries a cash reward in Haryana where he is wanted in at least three cases.

During the interrogation, the accused revealed that he was having an affair with Bhawana, a resident of Sector 17, Rohini.

She works in a call centre and her mother Renu Saini (50) is a divorcee.

“The victim Munna Singh (48), who was an acquaintance of the girl’s mother, objected to his (Robin) affair with Bhawana and also threatened him with dire consequences if he did not stop meeting the girl,” said a senior police officer.

Munna Singh was apparently trying to dissuade Bhawana from having a relationship with Robin since he was wanted in a number of criminal cases.

Bhawana had reportedly told the accused that Munna Singh was harassing her. On September 12, in the early morning hours, the accused went to Sector 17 where he saw Munna Singh.

Robin then took out a gun, fired at Munna Singh from a close range and escaped from the spot. Singh was declared brought dead at the hospital.

Robin also stole a motorcycle from Samaipur Badli, which has been recovered.
