Claiming to have unravelled the entire chain of events that preceded the suicide of airhostess Geetika Sharma earlier this month, the Delhi Police on Friday claimed they had “irrefutable evidence” against ex-Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda.
Sources said they were ready with the requisite paperwork needed to seek further custodial remand of Kanda, whose name Geetika had mentioned in two successive suicide notes before hanging herself at her Ashok Vihar house in Delhi.
“During interrogation, Kanda has claimed that Geetika was romantically involved with two other men — one of whom is a captain in the merchant navy. The said captain’s name had also appeared during our questioning of another one of his employees, Aruna Chaddha,” said an officer.
According to police, Kanda also claimed that Geetika was romantically involved with a Mumbai-based businessman. However, such submissions are being taken with more than a pinch of salt.
Meanwhile, sources said one of chief pleas by the police in favour of seeking further remand of Kanda would revolve around an attempt to confront him with Chaddha to nail ‘inconsistencies’ in details pertaining to his relationship with Geetika.
“We are also mulling formally arresting Shivroop, the man who sent the defamatory emails about Geetika to her employers at Emirates airlines,” the officer added.
