If the symbol of bungalow of Shoaib Iqbal’s Lok Janshakti Party makes a mark in the assembly elections, the Iqbal family will be everywhere in the Walled City.

Confident after his repeated wins and his party’s growing popularity in the area, this election Iqbal has given tickets to his brother and nephew from the other two seats in the Walled City.

Brother Ubead Iqbal is representing the party from Chandni Chowk where he has a tough competition from Congress’s Prahalad Singh Sawhney and BJP's trade association leader Praveen Khandelwal. His nephew Khurram Iqbal is fighting it out against Congress’s Food and Supply minister Haroon Yusuf in Ballimaran.

“Lok Jan Shakti Party is the main competitor of the Congress in this area. Even if they do not win they would surely cut a lot of Congress votes,” said Zafar Ansari, a resident of the Walled City. Contesting from Iqbal’s party from Sadar Bazar is Mohammad Gulab.

The party is confident of a win even in the areas from where Congress has been winning. “People are unhappy with the Congress as it has not been able to solve any of their problems. Especially in Ballimaran, water is such a big problem,” said a party worker.
