Two youngsters in the city — Craig Dominic Pinto and Shreya Sethi, 22, are collectively bringing out their first book of poems — I wrote This. “We write as one voice in the book. Even the poems are arranged thematically, and you won’t get to see the poet’s name at the bottom. So there’s no way you can get to know who among us has written the poem,” says Pinto.

Pinto and Sethi first came face to face in a poetry competition in college in 2009. While Sethi was a student of Economic honours at Kamala Nehru College, Pinto was studying English Honours at Delhi College of Arts and Commerce. “We were competitors, and Pinto usually took the first prize,” says Sethi. The two have clearly come a long way from being competitors to collaborators.

Over the last four years, the duo have spent a lot of time knowing and understanding each other’s poetic perspectives. “While I generally like to write about the happy side of life, as luckily, I haven’t seen much sadness, Shreya adds a lot of depth by writing about the darker mysteries of life,” says Pinto.

“It’s literally like being in a relationship with each other and dating through words,” say the duo, who openly admit to being in a ‘poetic relationship’ with each other, even though they have different life partners. “We have spent a lot of time together and even written poems for each other in the book. But because the poems don’t have a name, you can’t guess which person is being referred to,” says Sethi, keeping the sense of mystery alive.
