Reacting to the resignation of Gujarat police officer DG Vanzara — accused in fake encounter killings — in which he blamed Narendra Modi and Amit Shah for not defending cops who followed the government’s policy, BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi dubbed the episode as a conspiracy of the “Congress dirty tricks’ department”.
“The timing and the mannerisms coming from the Gujarat governor, the fake CD by a discredited journalist and the Vanzara resignation smacks of the Congress dirty tricks department using vulnerability of a person and abusing the system,” Lekhi said. She said that Vanzara’s trial wasn’t being completed and he was in jail during the trial’s pendency without getting bail.
“People like Suresh Kalmadi and leaders like A Raja and Kanimozhi accused of corruption are all out on bail, but cops’ vulnerabilities are being abused in relation to encounters they did,” she added.
However, many BJP leaders avoided the media, with expectation that the party may think about a response to the situation on Wednesday.
