Bhondsi Jail

Two inmates of Bhondsi Jail of Gurgaon, having 12 cases of murder and dacoity against them, escaped from Gurgaon police custody along with their arrest warrant and a gun from Dwarka.

The incident occurred when they were returning to Gurgaon after being produced in the Saket court on Monday. Police said the inmates had been accompanied by three Gurgaon police officers but why they chose to go to Dwarka is not clear yet.

“Sandeep Chitaniya and Neetu were to be produced in the Saket court at 2pm. They had come from Gurgaon by Metro and when they were coming out of the court, a Bolero car stopped and offered them lift,” a senior police officer said. Intriguingly, the police officers accepted the offer.

“The sequence of events, as narrated by the police officers, has many loopholes. Even if they had taken the lift why did they go to Dwarka? They should have taken the National Highway 8 if they had to go to Gurgaon,” the officer added. Initial investigations suggest that the two inmates and the three police officers had stopped the car at sector 19, a few metres away from the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police.

“They requested the driver to stop the vehicle, as they had to go to the toilet. After getting down from the car, they snatched the gun of a constable and other relevant papers and fled in the car. It seems the driver of the Bolero was involved too,” the officer added.

The three police officers are being questioned. Soon after the escape, the Delhi Police was alerted and pickets were placed in the border areas. Sandeep is a native of Sonepat while Neetu is a native of Jhajjar.
