An astrologer has been arrested for allegedly abducting his former colleague's son and threatening to kill the child if she did not marry him.

Kishore Kumar Prajapati, 39, a resident of east Delhi’s Seelampur, used to work together with the woman Rinki Devi at a small company in Noida.

During that time, Prajapati fell in love with her and proposed to her but she declined.

After around two months into the job, Devi resigned for personal reasons. But Prajapati kept in touch with her and even befriended her husband.

On January 14, he took Devi’s son on the pretext of taking him out for a lunch and disappeared.

“He came to Devi’s house on Wednesday and took their son out, but didn’t return for several hours. At around 5:00pm, Prajapati called Rinki on her mobile and asked her to marry him. He threatened to poison her son if she did not comply,” said a police official.

Police officials said Prajapati threatened to implicate Rinki’s husband on false charges.

A case of kidnapping was registered at the Gandhi Nagar police station. Prajapati was arrested from the Azadpur railway station and the child was recovered.

“Several teams were constituted in the case and more than a dozen places were raided. He was finally arrested from the Azadpur railway station on Thursday while trying to flee to Sonepat,” said DCP (east) Ajay Kumar.

During interrogation, he said his wife has deserted him and he wanted to marry the complainant. Further investigation was on.
