A liking for his friend’s wife forced 22-year-old Data Ram kidnap their one-year-old daughter and pressure her to seek divorce.
The accused had demanded R1 lakh from the couple for the safe release of their child. Ram of Balrampur in UP was arrested from Kanpur railway station by a team led by inspector Satender Mohan and Anand Parbat SHO Dinesh Kumar.
Additional CP (central) Devesh Chandra Srivastava said the arrest was made following a kidnapping complaint lodged by the child’s mother.
“Ram had been living with his friend Ashok, the child’s father, in a rented accommodation at Punjabi Basti in Anand Parbat since 2008. Even after Ashok got married, they lived together. In 2009, Ram had provided financial help to Ashok’s wife when she was undergoing medical treatment. After sometime, Ashok and his wife shifted out of the house and Ram started living separately in the neighbourhood,” said Srivastava.
But by then, Ram had fallen in love with Ashok’s wife. And this made him pressure her seek divorce from Ashok. But when she denied, he kidnapped their daughter and demanded R1 lakh from the couple, which he had spent on her treatment.
