Differences between the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union and the administration remained unresolved even as the students’ hunger strike entered its 10th day on Monday.

Union president Sandeep Singh, joint secretary Mobeen Alam and another student named Vismay Basu have been on an indefinite hunger strike since August 10 to protest “the improper implementation of the OBC quota at the time of admission”.

JNU, which had 12 per cent seats for the OBC category this year, has not been able to fill all the seats.

A little over 50 seats reserved for the OBC students has fallen vacant. While students allege that this is a result of a faulty interpretation of the “cut-off and relaxation rules for the OBC candidates in the final selection process in admission this year”, university officials disagree with their stand.

Though student representatives met senior officials, n Sunday, the negotiation did not lead to any breakthrough.
