Determined to end his life, a 30-year-old man jumped to his death, two hours after his first attempt, from the hospital where his mother who had consumed poison the same evening had been taken for treatment.

The victim, Ravi Sarin, tried committing suicide on Wednesday evening by jumping from his four-storey Inderpuri house minutes after he witnessed his mother Usha (65) consume sleeping pills and while she was being taken away by the police to the hospital.

Ravi, instead of coming down, locked himself inside his residence and jumped from the third floor. Some windows in the building, which were open, bore the impact of his fall and he crashed on a Santro car that was parked near the building.

The police then took both to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. The police said that while he was being taken to the radiology department at 7:30 pm, Sarin jumped from the fifth floor even as the attendant tried to stop him from doing so.

This time he succumbed to hs injuries and he was declared dead at 9.40 p.m. on Wednesday. His mother lies critical.

The police said the incident was triggered due to a financial dispute Ravi had with his brother Rajiv. The police said the brothers had been at loggerheads after their father’s death over the property where Ravi lived with his mother. The police said the brothers fought a few days back and their mother supported Ravi.

Ravi was unemployed and was living in EA Block in Inderpuri with his mother Usha, wife Divya Sarin (26) and a five-year-old son Ayaan.

“His mother Usha provided for the entire family and supported him against his brother Rajiv in a dispute over their property. But when she consumed sleeping pills on Wednesday, he lost it,” said a neighbour who did not want to be named.

The police said Ravi was unemployed for long. He tried a few odd jobs but was not able to hold on to them for long.
