Former Delhi High Court judge Justice Manmohan Sarin on Thursday assumed charge as the Lokayukta for New Delhi.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna administered the oath of office to him.
Justice Sarin is the third Lokayukta of Delhi. He succeeds Mohd Shamim, a retired High Court judge who was appointed as Lokayukta in 2003, a statement from the Lieutenant Governor's office said in New Delhi.
"The Lokayukta Act takes within its ambit ministers -- serving as well as former, including the chief minister, legislators, municipal councillors and the chairman, vice-chairman, managing director and members of boards run by the state government," the statement added.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Prem Singh, Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, High Court Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Jagdish Mukhi, Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly were among those present at the function.
