Fire services were informed about the incident at 8.50 p.m. on Friday. “We sent four fire tenders to control the fire,” said a senior fire department official. According to the police, juveniles at the centre started pelting stones at one of the fire tenders and vandalised it.

Police teams were called in to bring the situation under control.

“All the children have been rescued. We still do not know if some of them fled in the ensuing chaos. We will look into it as soon as the situation is brought under control,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) N.S. Bundela.
